Wolf of the Night
London’s nightlife has a certain allure to it, doesn’t it?
A city dressed in smoke and neon lights, seductive yet simmering with an edge of danger lying just beneath the surface.
It’s where people like me go to lose ourselves, blending in with the shadows under a mask of sophistication.
By day, I’m Jack. An architect, and quite a successful one, to be honest.
I’m a junior partner at my firm, which itself is one of the biggest across the world.
But just like everyone else, I’m not just defined by my job or my wealth. Deep down, I’m so much more – and just like you, I have secrets too.
Secrets I don’t want to share with the world.
So what’s my biggest secret, you ask?
Hmm… well, let’s just say I’m not your typical bloke from London.
Not just any architect, either!
I don’t bother with quaint semi-detacheds or trendy conversions.
No, my world is glass towers and riverfront penthouses, places where the wealthy go to look down on the city, imagining they own it.
I design these sanctuaries for the elite—a neat irony when you consider what I am: a creature no amount of luxury can contain.
But by night, the story changes. I walk these streets not as Jack the Architect, but as something much darker.
A man with a curse that runs deeper than blood, older than this ancient city itself. You see, I’m not merely a man. I am a werewolf!
The kind that lurks beneath well-cut suits and expensive colognes, who hides amongst the shadows of day in plain sight.
The full moon calls to me, yes, but even on the quietest of nights, the beast is never far away – always ever-present just beneath the surface of my skin.
It’s a hunger like no other—a gnawing, ever-present urge that no amount of whisky or empty encounters can seem to dull.
My life is a careful game of cat and mouse – of desire and control, of keeping the beast shackled while projecting the image of a man who appears to have everything.
To those around me, I’m refined, successful, and enviably well-connected. They see me in my tailored suits, with my calm, measured demeanour, and the quiet confidence that only comes from extreme wealth.
What they don’t see is the beast that exists within, a force that constantly claws at me with relentless ferocity!
I’ve learned to mask it well, to cultivate an air of mystery—that people love and find alluring. It keeps them intrigued, wanting to get closer, blissfully unaware of the danger that awaits just moments away from where they are standing.
And then, I met her. Emily.
She wasn’t like any of the others—the ones who flock to these elite parties, sipping cocktails with hollow laughter, like moths to a burning flame.
No, she was different – very different. She had a look about her, something raw, something real!
We met in a bar that sits high above the city’s rooftops, a place reserved for those of us with pockets deep enough to buy that kind of privacy, in a city that never sleeps.
The kind of place that lets you pretend, for a moment, that you’re above it all – and everyone who sits below you.
She was sharp, Emily. She had a way of looking at me that unsettled something inside my chest. Like she could see past the polish, through all the charm, and into the shadow I keep buried deep within.
Her profile said she enjoyed moonlit walks—cryptic, but it hooked me, from the moment I read it.
It felt like fate had a twisted sense of humour, bringing us together – two strangers connected by the mystery and power of the moon.
Our first date was electric! We moved through the night as though we’d known each other for years, finding hidden corners of the city that felt both intimate and dangerous.
There was something there—a connection that I hadn’t felt in a very long time. Something that hinted she understood the hunger, the darkness that gnawed at me.
For weeks, we played this dance of shadows together, a dangerous game where passion blurred with something much darker inside both of us.
Yet, I found myself slipping, letting the mask fall just a little. And that’s when she started to push, to ask questions, her voice soft, her gaze unyielding.
One night, we found ourselves walking along the Thames, the moon casting its pale light over the water as if marking us.
The city was still, almost reverent, and for a moment, it felt like we were the only two souls left in London.
Emily slowed her steps, her gaze drifting to the river, a look of contemplation crossing her face.
“Jack,” she murmured, her eyes flicking over my face, “do you ever feel like you’re hiding something? Like there’s a part of you no one else ever sees?”
A part of me wanted to laugh—a hollow, bitter laugh at the absurdity. If only she knew.
“Yes,” I replied, my voice barely a whisper.
“Sometimes it’s easier to keep parts of yourself locked away.”
Her hand tightened on mine, and for a fleeting moment, I felt the walls I’d built up around myself start to crack.
That night, we strolled the river bank, walked amongst the cobbled back streets and kissed amongst the darkest alleyways and hidden corners of the city, where no one else seemed to go.
As dawn broke, we headed back to her place. I had to be at work in a couple of hours for an important meeting, but I didn’t care.
The only thing I cared about was being with her. I just wanted her.
Everything about her was so alluring. Her eyes, her smile, the smell of her wavy blonde hair.
She was stunning and all I could think about – all I wanted to do – was to rip her clothes off and make love to her.
She kissed me hard as soon as we stepped into her apartment – and as soon as she did – I knew she wanted it too.
It wasn’t very long before our clothes lay scattered all across the hallway, the kitchen, the living room – leading a path to her bedroom itself.
Laced with white silk sheets, her bed was as decadent as she was. Her every touch, a mix of fire and ice, filled me with passion and sent shivers down my spine at the same time.
I had never experienced anything like it.
An insatiable lust to be with someone, to go down on someone and make her feel the kind of pleasure you only ever read about in books.
Time passed so fast we both lost complete track of it – and when I awoke, it was evening again, and the two of us were lying in her bed embraced sensually in each other’s arms.
I turned to grab my phone. 27 missed calls!
I knew I would be in trouble, not only did I miss an important meeting, I didn’t even answer my phone to talk to my boss.
Yet even amid this feeling of anxiety, a calmness flowed over me as Emily awoke and turned to kiss me again.
“Looks like it’s evening again,” she said with a smile.
“Shall we go out somewhere nice to eat?”
I smiled and agreed, turning my phone back over. This was a problem for tomorrow – tonight – tonight was going to be another night of passion and fun.
Night after night, we sought each other out, driven by a need that went beyond the physical.
Each evening felt like a ritual, a game of seduction where no words were needed, just glances that promised far more than any conversation could.
She would slip into my arms, her fingers tracing the contours of my face, her touch a silent challenge that sent a jolt of desire through my veins.
Our encounters were raw, charged with a wildness neither of us could tame, and every night ended in a frenzy of tangled sheets and muffled gasps.
It was intoxicating, a cycle of madness and release, a plunge into darkness that left us both spent but craving more, knowing we were losing control but too far gone to ever want to stop.
And as the days and nights went by, a feeling deep down inside me started to stir – a mixture of longing and regret.
I knew it wouldn’t be long until everything would have to change – and all of this would suddenly be over.
The full moon was approaching, and with it, the sense of dread I felt grew stronger and stronger.
I knew the beast inside me would soon break free, and I didn’t know if I could contain it.I’d lost control before, and it never ended well!
The thought of Emily seeing that side of me, of watching her turn away in horror—it was almost enough to make me walk away. Almost.
Then, the inevitable happened.
The transformation hit me in such a way that it was as subtle as a sledgehammer!
Its overwhelming power ripped through my body with an earth-shattering violence, mere words cannot do it justice…
Bones cracking, skin tearing, the familiar agony of giving in to the beast. But when I looked across the room, expecting to see fear, I found something else.
Emily, mid-transformation, her own face contorting into something wild, something feral too.
She lunged at me without hesitation. Not as the woman I had come to care for, but as a creature consumed by the same darkness I had tried to keep hidden.
Our bodies collided, claws slicing through flesh, and for a brief, brutal moment, it was as if we were locked in a dance of destruction.
Her eyes, once warm, now blazed with an intensity that matched my own.
We fought with a fury that was primal, unstoppable. Blood sprayed across the room, mingling with the fine furnishings, staining the perfection I’d surrounded myself with.
In those agonising moments, as claws tore through skin and teeth sank into flesh, I realised that whatever humanity we’d shared had been swallowed whole by the beasts within us.
But there, amidst the chaos, was a flicker of something—a glimpse of the Emily I had once known, a flash of warmth that broke through the darkness for a fleeting second.
Her eyes softened, and for a moment, it felt like she recognised me, the man beneath the monster.
I thought perhaps, just perhaps, we could pull each other back from the edge. But it was gone as quickly as it appeared, and I was left grappling with the grim realisation that I had fallen in love with a monster, just as I had feared she would fall for one.
As the blood soaked into the expensive carpet beneath us, I understood the tragic irony.
I had spent years, a lifetime even, building a life of control, of sophistication, of pretending that I could keep the beast at bay.
And in the end, it was the one thing I couldn’t escape. Not through wealth, not through charm, not even through love.
Because love, like the full moon, is a force that cannot be tamed. It strips you bare, shows you for what you truly are, and in my case, that was a creature ruled by darkness, a beast that could never coexist with the life I’d tried to build.
So, there I lay, in the remnants of what had once been my life, watching her disappear into the shadows.
The city lights cast faint silhouettes across the room, mocking me with their false warmth. I knew, as I stared into the darkness, that I would never truly escape this curse.
For all my pretensions, for all the refinement and control, I was nothing more than a beast in a man’s skin-and this my final breath – would now become my final atonement.
THE END

Author’s Thoughts
What if you met someone who understood the part of yourself you kept hidden?
You’d probably feel relieved and happy, right?
No more pretending.
No more worrying about what they might think if they really knew you.
That was something I wanted to explore with Jack and Emily.
Of course, being werewolves makes things a little more complicated. 😅
Jack spends most of his time just trying to stay in control. His work, his appearance, the way people see him.
Then he meets someone who makes him want to let everything go.
But neither of them tells the other the one thing they really need to know.
I keep coming back to that brief moment when Emily seems to recognise him. When there’s still something of the two people beneath everything else that’s happening.
Could they have helped each other if they’d only been honest sooner?
Or was this chance encounter and ending truly inevitable from the very start?
Instincts are instincts after all.
And nature is nature.
Just something to think about.
