A fiery heart surrounded by flames, artwork for The Fire Inside poem by J. S. Summers

The Fire Inside 🔥

Sometimes the strongest emotions are the ones we struggle hardest to understand.

The Fire Inside is about anger — but also about what we choose to do with it.

Anger can consume us if we let it. But sometimes, when we stop fighting it and start listening to what sits underneath it, it can teach us something about ourselves.

This poem came from that place — the moment I realised I didn’t want the fire inside me to control who I became.

THE FIRE INSIDE

Hate rages within

An insatiable fire

Igniting

Burning

Desperate to get out

To engulf

To consume

But that’s not who I am

That’s not who I want to be

Never again

And so I look inwards

No longer outwards

And become the fire
